About

I am Anoosh Ariamehr, a socially engaged photographer, social activist, street photographer, and creative writer. With a background in journalism, I merge my experience in storytelling with visual art, using photography as a bridge between cultures and a tool for fostering mutual understanding. I am currently pursuing my MA in Socially Engaged Photography at the University of Salford.

For me, photography is more than just an art form — it is a powerful and democratic medium for storytelling, connection, and community empowerment. Beyond aesthetics, it serves as a tool for change, awareness, and social solidarity. Through my lens, I explore themes of identity, belonging, and the untold stories that often go unnoticed.

As a socially engaged photographer, I work at Open Eye Gallery, and collaborate on projects with organisations such as Liverpool City Region, Knowsley Borough Council, Kirkby Gallery, Salford Museum and Art Gallery, The Bluecoat, and The Royal Historical Society (RHS).

My work primarily focuses on engaging with refugee and displaced communities, using photography as a means of integration, self-expression, and empowerment. Additionally, I have previously collaborated with Share-Knowsley, Culture Co-op, Writing-on-the-Wall, and Phoenix-way.

Beyond my professional and community-focused work, I am drawn to capturing urban landscapes, everyday life, and street portraits. I believe the faces and streets around me are filled with untold stories waiting to be discovered. I often prefer black and white photography for its ability to highlight contrast and emotion. However, I also work in colour when the story demands it.
